The theological concept that "when righteousness touches unrighteousness, righteousness wins" has its nuances. In my old church doctrine, it was heavily taught that under the New Covenant, the old laws of contamination were completely reversed—meaning that when I touch something unclean, I don't get unclean; instead, the unclean thing becomes clean.
While Jesus Christ’s ultimate victory is absolute, the Bible also explicitly states in 1 Corinthians 15:33 that "bad company corrupts good morals." Proximity, atmosphere, and alignment matter immensely in spiritual realms, which is why God commands us in 2 Corinthians 6:17 to "come out from among them, and be ye separate... and touch not the unclean thing."
My personal experience bears this out.
Recently, I had a meeting with a fellow believer whom God said was "filled with uncleanness." During our time together, I was prayed for. There was no physical touch or laying on of hands—just spoken words. Almost immediately after the meeting, I was hit with an intense headache and severe muscle aches.
When I took it to prayer, God told me exactly what happened: I had experienced a non-physical transference of spirits by letting my guard down.
When someone is operating in an unclean spiritual state, it changes their spiritual atmosphere. Because words are carriers of spiritual substance, receiving them without a guard affects me.
In Acts 10:28, God calls no man unclean because the cross granted all humanity the legal right to be free from darkness.
However, while God declares a vessel clean, a person can still host an unclean spirit if their actions give place to the devil.
By participating in sin or unrighteous imaginations, for example, an individual grants an unclean spirit a legal entry point into their soul or body.
Deliverance then is the enforcement of God’s supreme justice—breaking the enemy's hold so the captive can walk in the full liberty Jesus Christ already paid for.
God told me to break the assignment by declaring out loud:
"In the name of Jesus Christ, I reject and cancel every word spoken over me in that meeting. You spirit of heaviness and infirmity, leave me now! Holy Spirit, flush my environment with Your fire and restore my peace."
The experience taught me to be highly selective about who I allow to voice prayers over my life.
