Hi, brothers and sisters!
For 18 years, and due to many reasons, I was bound by a specific Christian doctrine.
Looking back, I realize I mistook intellectual agreement for true conviction. Just because my mind could follow a set of ideas.
Let me give you an example. If I watch a movie with a fictional plot, I can easily follow the story until the end credits roll. However, being able to understand the plot doesn't make the movie true.
In my experience, real conviction is the exact opposite. Conviction to me means I know deep down that something is true, even if my mind cannot explain why yet. And then a pastor or preacher explains why.
Now, I actively engage the Holy Spirit to give me His own running commentary on the things I hear.
Ultimately, the difference between brainwashing and the washing of the water of the Word depends entirely on one thing: whether one is walking with God, or with man.
