Perfect Day, Saints!
In my old church, I was taught that believers should judge themselves when they fail or sin.
While the church insists that the Holy Spirit will never convict a believer of sin, only righteousness, they teach that human conscience will recognize wrong behavior. The senior pastor calls it a process of "judging himself."
However, a massive theological contradiction emerges when they teach on Holy Communion.
According to the church, partaking worthily does not mean inspecting your heart for unconfessed sin. Instead, the church completely flips the definition of "self-judgment" at the Lord's Table.
They claim that to "judge yourself" during Communion actually means to judge yourself righteous, healed, and forgiven because of Christ's finished work. In the church's view, bringing "sin-consciousness" to Communion is what actually causes weakness and sickness.
Can you see the murky waters here?
On one hand, the church asserts that a believer's born-again conscience is responsible for spotting and judging everyday sins.
On the other hand, during the most sacred act of scriptural self-examination—Communion—believers are told to completely override self-awareness of faults and perform a mental pivot to declare themselves perfectly righteous.
By removing the Holy Spirit from the process of correction, the burden of managing sin falls entirely onto the human mind. The believer is forced to police themselves, deciding when to acknowledge sin and when to actively ignore it.
This system creates an unbiblical hierarchy where the human conscience operates independently of—and practically higher than—the Holy Spirit.
Bondservant John Anosike firmly teaches that the human conscience has zero sovereign authority to govern holiness on its own. Our conscience cannot accurately detect, grieve, or turn away from sin unless it is actively illuminated by the Holy Ghost.
God taught me that this is true. If a believer's conscience becomes desensitized or seared by lifestyle compromises, and they are taught that the Holy Spirit will never step in to convict them, they will continue down a path of deception—all while using Communion to declare themselves "righteous" without ever repenting.
And that's the reason why the Holy Spirit stopped me from taking the Holy Communion in this way years ago, even while I was still in my old church.
